UPDATE: I am currently on the job market. I am interested, broadly, in generative AI. More specifically, I leverage my User Experience Research background to improve people's interactions and collaborations with chatbots and AI. In addition, I use my background in NLP to improve large language models (LLMs), especially the vector databases used to store language data.

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the NIH/NIDA. I work in the Technology and Translational Research Unit. We research substance use disorders and how we can predict behavior based on social media posts, sensor data, and biometrics.

I was a PhD student in the Media, Technology, and Society program, with a focus on Human-Computer Interaction. My dissertation, Predicting Social Dynamics in Interactions Using Keystroke Patterns, looked at how we can understand a person's underlying motivations based on the way they typed.

My overall interest is to better understand user experience. I approach this by:
  • Quantifying user behavior, breaking an experience into discrete metrics
  • Combining my findings with quaitative self-reports, to understand how an objective reality matches up against subjective opinions
  • Grounding my findings in cognitive science, to understand a user's motivations and intents
  • Putting it all together and making beautiful (and intuitive) visualizations
I use this toolkit to research and improve user experiences (UX), such as interactions in remote healthcare, chatbot experiences, and better integrating humans into the AI experience.
